Changing the Wheel Piktogram Gallery / WARSAW (Poland) 22.09.2017 – 10.11.2017 Changing the Wheel By Bertolt Brecht
I sit by the roadside Changing the Wheel is Florian Auer’s first solo exhibition in Poland, with a series of works inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s poem. Auer was born, in 1984, in Augsburg. He studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, in the class of Tobias Rehberger. Today he lives and works in Berlin and his studio is located in the so-called Filmstadt Weißensee or a kleine Hollywood in the eastern part of the city. In the 1920s, Fritz Lang and Marlene Dietrich, among others, were working at the film studios there, where some of the most legendary productions in cinematic history were brought to life, including The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Today the site hosts a stretch of craftsmen’s workshops – carpenters, stonecutters, metallurgists – which also serves as a point of reference for the exhibition. Brecht’s house stands nearby on the lake. The avant-garde playwright, like the young artist, was born in Augsburg. |
